Daily Visual Planner

Daily Visual Planner. (Size approx. 42cm x 30cm).

The Daily Visual Planners are simple visual aid tools that have been designed to help children and parents talk about activities and events by enabling the child to see what they will be doing during the day.

When used correctly, these boards create a structure / routine which can help children (especially those with autism, and other additional needs) to know what to expect, understand what is happening and move smoothly from one task to the next.

Having tasks that have to done as well as those that are optional encourages children to learn how to make choices.

How should you use the Daily Visual Planner?

This simple but effective visual planner can be used to help a child, teenager or adult with their routine and structure during a day. It helps to improve communication between a caregiver and the individual and teach independance and making choices. These, in turn lead to less stress and frustration.

  1. The Daily Visual Planner is your child’s board and not yours, encourage them to take ownership.
  2. Encourage your child to write each activity for the day on one of the self cling notes and place it in the To Do column. Talk about each activity.
  3. You may opt to use a specific colour for different types of tasks.
  4. You can use particular colours for tasks that have to be done, those that can be done at any time and those that are completely optional.
  5. When ready, your child chooses the which task they will start with, moves that task note to the Doing column and goes and does the task.
  6. Once the task is complete your child moves the task note to the Done column
  7. Your child then chooses the next task and moves the note from To Do to Doing.

Remember to be patient and consistent with your messages and keep talking about what is on the board – ALWAYS – so the child learns to trust it as a tool.
